Kastraki Dam

Owner : Greek Public Power Corporation

With an installed capacity of 320 MW, Kastraki Dam is a hydroelectric power plant located on the Achellos river.

Constructed in 1969, this plant is owned by the Greek Public Power Corporation and produces 640 GWh/year.

Fusegates were selected as the spillway control system in order to optimize the hydropower output without raising the dam crest.

The project has enabled the storage capacity to be increased by 51 hm³, thereby improving the operational flexibility of the power plant and boosting energy production by 41 GWh/year.

Fusegates were preferred over other mechanical gates because they require minimum maintenance and no modifications need to be made to the spillway sill.
