Sarough Dam

Owner : West Azerbaigian Water Board

Sarough Dam is a new structure providing irrigation and drinking water, and operated by the West Azerbaijan Regional Water Authority (Iran).

Fusegates were selected as the spillway control system on account of the specific hydrology of the site: there are just six hours between the start of the flood and its peak. This short period is not sufficient for addressing any mechanical faults, power cuts or operating errors with classic mechanical gates.

The use of the fusegate system on this dam makes it possible to address the project requirements in a cost-effective way, while avoiding the disadvantages of a gated spillway.
