On account of the very slight slope of the riverbed, floodwater is hard to discharge.
To limit the risks to people and property, some of the river discharge flow had to be diverted to less populated areas.
Accordingly, Hydroplus developed a pilot project whereby a one-piece cast concrete non-discharging fusegate was installed on part of the Dong Feng Lake embankment for this very purpose.
