Dafnozonara dam is a newly constructed small hydropower plant located on the Aheloos River in western Greece. The dam owner, Terna Energy SA, designed the dam with a Fusegates spillway. As compared to the basic design with a free overflow spillway, the reservoir is raised by 3,30m thus boosting the power production potential of this scheme by 8,50MW (the storage capacity is increased by 58%). The Fusegates system was selected over other spillway control system for its cost effectiveness and its low maintenance requirements, This project also confirms the potential of the Fusegates system if applied for enhancing the powr generation of the hydropower schemes.
