Sustainable Development

Hydroplus is committed to demonstrating a high level of corporate social responsibility and to respecting the values and views of stakeholders in the projects it is fortunate to become involved in. The company values the principles of sustainable development, respect for fundamental human rights and the responsible use of natural resources.

ISO standards
Hydroplus has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:1996 certification for quality and environmental systems by AFAQ, a third-party auditor. The scope of Hydroplus’ certification includes design, manufacturing and installation of fusegates, and also covers all subsidiaries.

The quality and environmental systems are applied to all projects. The supporting procedures for the systems are outlined in the quality and environment manual, and accompanied by instructions, checklists and forms. The procedures encompass all aspects of a project, ranging from the contract to project planning and completion of work.

Certification by a third-party reaffirms our commitment to the high standards of quality required in dam engineering, and reinforces our dedication and leadership in meeting environmental, health and safety standards.

The ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:1996 certifications are part of Hydroplus’ efforts to improve products and services for its clients.

A commitment to best practices
By optimizing the capacity of existing dams, Hydroplus reduces the need for new dam construction, thereby limiting the environmental impact that such construction can entail. In addition, by enhancing the dam as an asset of the owner and stakeholders – larger storage capacity and greater protection for people and property located downstream – Hydroplus helps in the provision of growth opportunities and local development.

Fundamentally the system ultilises an environmentally friendly technology. Fusegates do not pollute; they require no energy and are powered by the natural force of water. In 2002, Hydroplus accepted the Legambiente prize, awarded every year in Italy to the company whose project was deemed the most environmentally friendly. Hydroplus implements projects on five continents but always partners with with local companies for the construction of the fusegates.

VINCI, of which Hydroplus is a subsidiary, has signed the Global Compact between the U.N. and the corporate sector. The objective of the Global Compact is to enable all the peoples of the earth to benefit from globalization and to incite world markets to adopt the values and practices required to meet socioeconomic needs. All VINCI subcontractors from all countries must agree as part of project contracts to respect the principles of the Global Compact.
