Winning duo : Flap Gates and Fusegates for ultimate safety

When Voies Navigables de France (VNF) was tackling the spillway inadequacy problem at its Pont-et-Massène dam, they decided to use the innovative Fusegate System technology offered by Hydroplus to protect the safety of the dam and the downstream population.

Located on the Armançon river in Côtes d'Or, France, the dam was built between 1878 and 1882 for the alimentation of the Bourgogne canal. In order to meet the flood discharge requirements without jeopardizing the water quality management, the dam was equipped with two flap gates combined with four Fusegates standing over 4 m tall.

This configuration, which was approved by the Permanent Technical Committee on Dams and French Hydraulic Structures, offers the maximum reliability, since the Fusegates would save the dam in the case of mechanical failures during extreme flood events.
